 This is just great!
 Posted on: 04/09/07 at 23:27:18

This map is generated by: ClustrMap as initially suggested by: SafePit.

For more details click here.

It will be integrated within the statslog module in version 1.0 !

We already have graphical display implemented for it, but this one is just much better!

On :)

While I am having trouble finding the script...

I had a Perl script which looked just like this but loaded up programmable data.

I am still trying to find this, it would make it easy for us to have our own built-in version of this feature for the script...  and its GPL :)

Well here is one that is perl, and SMALL and simple...  and could easily be used to set up a Members World Map...
Right now it is set up to display Airports around the world...  just by figuring out a way to set up a Users data file instead of the airports one... you got it...

more as I find them :)

Just to save energy searching..wink
These scripts require gd library which is NOT packed with the default Perl pack and it would be usless to rip the module as it needs to be complied.

Anyway the good news are that we won't need to compile anything or rip anything to have something "like this" integrated within the new statslog graphic display.

On :)

This looks great.  Nice job integrating it!  I'm still debating putting it on my site -- but I don't think I get enough traffic.  :-(

Hmmmm is it only me that got the impression that the photo above is not being updated? I left the updater link the same in the front page... only reducing the img size to 0...

Well...  unless you changed something majorly...  it looks like the image from their site...

http://www2.clustrmaps.com... external link

of course we need to see the actual updated link to double-check...

It looks like it is updating, here is the text from the site:

The above map depicts: 9,828 visits from 1 Apr 2007 to 24 Apr 2007
This map is updated daily (most recent update: 2007-04-24 16:39:09 GMT)

Running total of visits to the above URL since 1 Apr 2007: 9,962 (not necessarily all displayed - see below).
Visits on previous 'day': 918.

Additional Notes about totals and map updates (for full guide see Map Key):

The map shows individual visits to the web site shown at the top of the page, clustered within a given distance.

The location of each visit is based on the IP address of the computer used.

In order for your map to be 'updated' (whether daily, weekly, or monthly) the number of visitors shown must also have grown by a certain percentage since the last update. This is explained more fully in our FAQ about update frequency.

Total/subtotal discrepancies above are typically caused either by IP addresses not currently being in the database or by the gap between counter tallies (continous) and map updates (which may be daily, weekly, or monthly).

Looks like our map is getting updated daily.

Maybe you are mixing up the image displayed on the side blocks with the actual mapping image...

I noticed that one is fixed on the server here...  while the large one is running off the ClustrMap service...

I like this service and just added it to one of my sites!!! :)

Is this built in based on the country people set in their profile?

I've got a "buddy map" on the Home page on my site, since our members are from all over the world. :)

Nope, it's built based on the location associated with their IP's.  It's not perfect, but it doesn't require anyone to submit their location information -- it's just a generic representation.

Note that it's a 3rd party site, you can to sign up and use it on your own site if you'd like.  Just click the image.  ;-)

Oh that's really cool!  I think only about half of our members fill out the country in their profile.  And a lot of them seem to have the United States as their country, even though they obviously have foreign e-mails.

P.S. How do you get it to show up big?  Does it have to be on the Home page, too?

http://www.thecommitted.net... external link

I managed to put it in the Left Block but I don't know how to point it to a web page like you guys did -- I don't know ANY html.

It works best to put the little image (the html code they give you) on every page.

The "big image" on the link at their site won't show up till there is enough data to generate the first image.  Once it is built, you can do like On did and link directly to it.

I have a delete icon (the trashcan in the bottom right).  Do you not see one?  You should also be able to edit your post (paper with an e on it).
