I did get lots of enquries, that people could NOT register, because of an error, whatsoever...I've also mentioned this issue on my earlier comments...I did some checks, and the same also occured to me, however, not always:

I have a hunch, that it happenes (among other reasons)if the username is longer than a certain number of letters...Pls check it...If this is true and correct, we have to notice the users for somehow, thanks.

I posted a patch for a similliar issue, and was working on this one too but I have it in the office (WebAPP office), will get there later today and add the patch in your site.

Fix:
1.) Issue with old usernames larger then what is allowed (20 in this file).
2.) Allow admins to change the maximum allowed username size.
3.) Fix is also implemented in the maximum size provided in the html form field.

Instructions:
1.) Unzip
2.) Upload folder, overwriting current /cgi-bin/cgi-lib/user.pl
3.) The max size is 20 in this fix, however you can change it by editing user.pl
line 28:

#temp. fix to decide max allowed username
our $maxusername=20;
#change this number above to anything reasonable ...

You are right. There were several small bugs that we knew about... but they some how got forgotten, will must take a very close look at this forum board before we release future version to make sure that this fix and others get in.
