 Learning PERL 101
 Posted on: 06/04/10 at 18:56:57

Hey people, I've had a subscription to a certain book site (O'R...y). With this membership I have access to almost all the stuff written. Lots of it.

I have this idea that getting input from people who use perl to develop things like WebAPP, would serve me better than any membership poll or user satisfaction survey.

If you were to start learning perl all over again, what books and tutorials would you run too?

I'm a quick study with lots of time on my hands to devote to this experience. What do you think of the issues, if any, are, of being self taught vs formal schooled in this area? (commas?)

I think you should read some of Randal's (corrected spelling) stuff to get you heading
in the right
direction.

Randall Flagg? I am looking into it now. Thanks for the lead.

Randal is a genius when it comes to Perl and I respect him for that but we don't see
eye to eye on a few things. Yes, I even argue with the best of them. He has referred to
me as an "unteachable idiot" and "net violent". Little does he know that just makes me
love him even more.

Net violent? Is that anything like Web Crazy? What do you and Randal have disagreements with over PERL? Is it how it should be used?

He hates it when I (or anyone else) use a regex to check an email address. He's all
about using a RFC822 compliant Perl module but after reading what it considers a valid
email address I'd never use it. I guess *@..email.com is a valid email address
according to the standard. I require stricter (higher?) standards for my website and
his goofy friend with the fucked up email address thinks he's so damn cute he can do
anything he wants but he can't register his email address with me. Boo hoo hoo. Go have
a group hug and leave me out of it.

Because I wont comply to his RFC God he thinks I'm ignorant. I think the geniouses that
put together that s**t need to slap themselves and get on the other side of the street
when they see me coming.
