I have had this problem several times. After upgrading, none of the passwords work. During the upgrade I set everything to 777 but still the passwords didn't get converted. Is there a stand-alone password converter? There are over 2,000 members and about 500 active members on the site I am trying to convert so I don't want to do it manually.
After the upgrade, logging in seemed to be the only problem. I even went back after installation and changed everything to 777 recursively and still can't log in. I deleted everything and went back to the old installation on another sever. Any ideas? I hate having to tell people they need to register again as I have done in the past. Well... I was wondering if someone was going to reply to this but it looks like it
won't be soon enough. I am wondering what version you are currently using and what are you upgrading to. 0 but true |

The quick fix is to have each member click on "Forgot My Password".
This will email them their new password... for those with bad emails you can set an account with a simple password like 123456789 and then copy/paste the password data into the users data file to set their passwords as 123456789 or whatever you pick... Seems like the issue here is that the password conversion code is either missing, or not kicking in on your site... On is the one that would know about this issue and whats up with the code for now... Beta-Tester Extraordinaire. I have the postfix/sendmail servers turned off because there was an exploit of the "recommend" feature in the past. Having them use "forgot password" would work except for that. I know that "recommend" can be turned off, but I am not going to take any more chances of an email exploit.
I solved the password problem by installing as a new site instead of an upgrade and then using the old database. All of the passwords are working. I am modifying the code wherever I find anything that needs email. It would be nice if turning off email was just an option that could be switched on or off. I don't want anymore lectures from my isp. Thanks for your replies. My generic signature...(I love it) |
