Hi all,

Its been a while since i installed a website cms.
Now i want to install this one, but i don't know how.
I chmodded the setup.cgi to 755 and when i navigate in my browser to the index.htm i get the install screen.
I then click the green install button and then it lets me download a file. How do i start the install? i'm kinda confused. Sorry for my noobish question but i just can't figger it out. Hope you can help me.

hi wixxi, welcome!. it's a little while since i did an install, but i am sure we can sort it. i don't recall that u need download a file? (from ur site) can u explain a bit more?

Hi Wixxi  and welcome to WebAPP,

There are two reasons I can think of that may have caused this issue:

1.) Your setup.cgi is not located in the cgi folder of your server. Some servers have separated location for the cgi files and html files, and the cgi file would simply refuse to execute and would therefore be "served" as a file for download.
2.) Your webhost does not provide support for cgi scripts or have not enabled this feature for you.

I have a free webhost called 000web.
http://1woa.net46.net... This is my webspace. I'll have a look trough the control panel in search for cgi folder. I hope the server has this enabled.

It does not look like they provide cgi there.

I strongly recommned you using DreamHost for Perl or any other CMS script hosting. Their services are nearly for free (and we are talking about unlimited harddisk space and bandwidth), and any time you can upgrade, even gradualy to dedicated hosting.

Besides, with the AdSense module on WebAPP v.1.0 you should be able to cover both your hosting and domain regisration costs *atleast*. This module lets you run you own sponsoring ads, better then... advertizing for someone else, eg. "free webhoster"

Hello, thanks for the dreamhost tip!
But i'm wondering is there any webhost that provides a relativly fast performance and perl capability, without adds or small adds for free?
The problem is i'd like to pay for a webhost but my dad doesn't trust this. I just want to make a portal for my clan.

In such a case I would recommend you to use some sort of blogging or social network services, it would save you lots of headache. there is some listings here: List_of_social_networking_websites facebook is one of the popular services on this list.

I found another cms but i'm not very happy about it.
I'm gonna look around some more.

this is the website i now have (it uses cmsimple, no content yet) But i think this cms lacks alot of 3rd party user ability. Like there is no member list wich is generated by the registered users on the website. I'd really like to have these options for it is a clansite, i don't like to update every page manual.

I like cmsimple alot. It is written in PHP which makes it easier for beginners and has very simple interface and functions, however please note that PHP is a simplified Perl (in some sense) which has its advantages and disadvantages. Perl is much more powerfull, but then again it all depends what you need the CMS for.

I hope you will find the CMS that works best for you.
