 Testing your script..!
 Posted on: 05/04/08 at 09:31:27

Hello,
I'm intending to use this script, however, I've no idea how it will look at my web site later, and what about uninstalling the whole thing without a problem, as it seems lots of work, considering the huge number of the files after unzipping.
Thus, here some questions:
Q1- please provide some web site links which use your WebAPP script, so I have a look at them, before trying your script.
Q2- a: My web site is : http://ankarahhh.com... external link/  how would look it after the installation, do I have to design everything again?
b: Or will my web site be embedded, into your environment?
Q3- Is the assumption made as below totally correct?:
"I can leave at my web site all as is, but pages I want to have an access, I can apply your script, with user name and passwords, manage them, refuse them, etc. and this application involves only these pages, which are chosen enteriley by me, the rest of the web site stays as is..!" Is this correct?

According the answers, I may have others, thanks.
Kind Regards
gspot

Most important thing is to back up your old site.

After checking it out, im sure it will be easy to do...

The script doesnt magically eat your current website and update it to run on webapp.  This is a fully functional portal script...  so you will have to change the theme to match your old sites theme and then add in the content you want as articles or forum posts or whatever you plan on doing...

and your statement below is false.  This script is a complete system on its own, not something to administrate your old website unless you integrate it into the script.

again, BACK UP your old site...
Install webapp.  Integrate your old sites content into the WebAPP script...

Enjoy.

If you dont like it...  just Delete and upload your old site back up.

once again...  Enjoy.  oh, and BACK UP.

Hi JackThanks for the quick reply,

I've im my site also an upload, download page for GPS files:

http://ankarahhh.com... external link

q-1 Do you think that I can integrate it with your script, so only visitors, who are registered with username, password and email address can access this page?
Would be nice...!
q-2 Do you have also "upload" possibilities, as I've read something like that in the forum?
q-3 Do you have a reference web site link build in with your script, so I can have a look and compare?

Thanks
gspot
P.S.: trying to get a hyperlink, bu obviously not working?!

This site was replacing a similar site to yours in one day work. By the way, I was requested to remove the language bar from there, but basically you can have any language out of 30 displayed, easily managed from the site admin->language

Q2- a: My web site is : http://ankarahhh.com... external link/  how would look it after the installation, do I have to design everything again?
b: Or will my web site be embedded, into your environment?

I like your site in terms of order and generating relevant content on the fly. However, as you must know frame is not very comfortable for search bots and actually vanished nearly 10 years ago.
Design: there  is themes/ folder and one main file you may like to play with there, style.css no need for previous Perl knowledge whatever to do that. In addition you can decide the entire menus display (for members/nonmembers/different status) directly from the site admin. You can also generate html links there, but again I for one, would not recommend you to use frames, unless you really have to (in the example above there is 2 iframes). You can use site admin-> display to change colors and more, or site admin->menu to manage menu items. site admin->blocks to add/remove/edit blocks.
Ps. to apply the background image you will need to "play" with themes/standard/header.pl look for the html code there, it is simple.

Please see above, you can add all the links you have on your site to the menu on the new script.

According the answers, I may have others, thanks.

Will take a look at your other questions now smile

Yes, but that would require some changes in your filechucker.cgi file. We could get back to that later. Otherwise, we have an advance uploader also implemented in WebAPP. Where you can decide  even the status of users that are allowed to upload different files types which you can manage at: site admin->uploader

q-2 Do you have also "upload" possibilities, as I've read something like that in the forum?

Yes, please see above.

q-3 Do you have a  reference  web site link build in with your script, so I can have a look and compare?

Please see previous post.

PS. The script you see here is beta v. 2.0 which is different then the one we have in the downloads (v. 1.0), v.2.0 will bejust as free as any other webapp script ever been released, but its not  ready yet.

Hi On,
Sherefe.-) Yes "on" is ten(10) in Turkish but "On On" is also our hashers call.., should you know what a hasher/hashing is, tell me where you're based, I'll let you know the next closest hash group to your place, we know each other all over the world.-)

Now it's getting serious: I'll try your script, first, I have to prepare myself mentally, (remember the saying in the computer environment, "never change a working system..")...!

I've over viewed the issue, and if worse comes worst, I'll switch to my previous one, thus, couple of questions:
1-I've backed up my WebSite, however, I've lots of photos (probably the main content of the whole site), I can't backup them, as it takes lots of space, actually I haven't place for them by now, so:

Do you think that the photos would be vanish/diminish too? Does the danger to loose something at the website cover also the photos?
In this case I have to think to find a solution for this too...!
2- Do you think, that there is a possibility to play with your script on my laptop, before installing on the server, (like, I do everything with FrontPage, like WYSIWYG issue), is there a free program editor being able too see the results, by changing/editing the style.css or header.pl or any *.cgi file, like in the Frontpage program for instance?

Thanks and

Hi again,

Just read abut  it in wikipedia
hash/hashing . This sounds like a great fun! Hashers frequently describe themselves as "a drinking club with a running problem",lol.

Do they have it in Norway? I have seen something similar here (Norway) and in the water Festival in Stockholm, but it was in the water.

Backup/preview: the easiest way to backup is to rename the entire folder. There is no reason for why the script would delete your images or anything else EXCEPT the index.html file, because the site robot updates the front html page every some hours (we will not use this feature any more on v.2.0).

So to backup you can either rename your entire site folder/s (eg. and take good care of the index.html Or go the other way and upload the script into /test  folder.

Previewing things on laptop (offline), if you have *nix OS on your laptop or working Perl environment you could also install it on offline platform. Viewing CSS changes can be quite frustrating online as you may need to clear cache every change you try. One way (trick) to do it offline is to download the entire new site page as html.. and then go into the saved site folder and test things on the saved style.css

I hope it makes sense to you.

Hi Again,

First, yes there are 3 HHH in Norway, pls check and contact if necessary and say hello from G-Spot:

http://www.oh3.no... external link/  Oslo

http://www.bh3.org... external link/  Bergen

http://www.scandihooligan.no... external link/  Kristiansand

Remember, if they say run, it's not necessarily running as it is, you can also walk!

Now to business:

In my server there is:
/htdocs/cgi-bin/
However all my photo folders and index.html file, main.html, navigation.html and all  are in (under) /htdocs/
the "cgi-bin" is also in (under) htdocs (and in (under) cgi-bin there is the filechucker.cgi etc.)

Question 1:

So, now, pls tell me: do I belong to case 1 or 2?
I think my case is 2: YOUR SERVER HAS DIFFERENT LOCATIONS FOR CGI AND HTM, pls confirm, thanks.

I'm intending to put all the cgi-bin content under cgi-bin/webapp/, (I've created a new subfolder "webapp" under cgi-bin)
When you read your Readme.txt it says "cgi-bin/install/setup.cgi"  ! So, do I have to create a new sub directory named "install", or is the new sub directory "webapp" ok? Or what you mean with "/install/" in your Readme.txt file?

Question 2-

Then your Readme.txt says:
- Go to your site: http://www.yourwebappsite.com... external link and install!

what do you mean here with "install"? What do I have to do? Just hit the "enter" button at my laptop like at the website: "http://ankarahhh.com/cgi-bin/webapp/setup.cgi" or shall I replace here subdirectory "webapp" with "install"?
Thanks, after clarification of these 2 questions, we'll start, hopefully..!

Thanks for the url.

1.) cgi-bin/webapp sounds good.
2.) html/webapp
3.) Start install in http://ankarahhh.com... external link

The install will ask you to correct the path, simply add /webapp in the form there.

Sorry, one more, you say:
" 3.) Start install in http://ankarahhh.com... external link  "
so, you mean installing NOT under cgi-bin, like in Readme.txt file, "cgi-bin/install/setup.cgi" ?
Thanks
G*
P.S.: In the first place, I had understood, that I should make the "install action" under cgi-bin...!

You will not be able to execute the install directly from the cgi-bin/ you need to start it from the html/ folder I know its unusual, but its one of the changes we add in order to prevent hackers from trying to search for the install file and hit on some random sites, the install is also protected by a cookie, meaning only one user can access the install.

I did this install now in http://www.yes.as... external link :

1.) Created folders: both under html and cgi-bin called: webapp
2.) Unziped the package.
3.) Uploaded the content of cgi-bin/ (one install/ folder and one .zip file) into cgi-bin/webapp/
4.) Uploaded the rest into /webapp (on the html folder).
5.) chmod 0755 of cgi-bin/webapp/install/setup.cgi
6.) Opened my browsers and typed: http://www.yes.as... external link
7.) It gave me the wrong path (and expected to be wrong path) because its a special underfolder install.
  http://www.yes.as... external link
8.) Corrected the path to:
http://www.yes.as... external link and clicked "update". An clicked "install".
9.) Unzipped, waited for the files to unzip first! and then Clicked "continue"...
10.) Now, since this is an advance install, I chosen "advanced installation".
11.) Took a look at the html paths, and corrected all of them. The cgi-bin paths were ok.
12.) DONE!

http://www.yes.as... external link

I concur. My old server was a little "clunky" as to the placement of folders.

You could also try...

htdocs/webapp/cgi-bin

Depending on how your server is configured, this may work? I have also (on another server setup) had...

htdocs/webapp
...and...
htdocs/cgi-bin/webapp

...as I was only able to have ONE cgi-bin!

The "Install" folder you would have created when you uploaded pre-install packages.
